Efficient fungal inactivation


MouldClean™ is an effective anti-mould mixture of highly concentrated potent organic acids and salts, with carefully selected and purified essential oils. All of these synergistic compounds have typical broad-spectrum anti-microbial features, especially against many common fungal species but also gastro-intestinal pathogens like Salmonella spp. or E. coli. MouldClean™ is of great significance as bio-hygienic treatment of swine and poultry feed. The grey-whitish, non-corrosive granular material is free-flowing and heat stable during manufacturing of premixes and processing of raw materials or complete diets.

MouldClean™ is applied for the inactivation of harmful moulds but also bacterial pathogens (e.g. Salmonella spp and E. coli) in stored feed or raw materials, and in the gastro-intestinal tract (GIT) of monogastric animals. It is an exceptional, well-balanced acidifier mixture with synergistic botanical compounds. This powerful and convenient combination (of the most fungicidal, low-corrosive organic acids and essential oils) enables a continuous control of fungi who remain a costly occurrence for feed commodity traders, feed millers and animal producers.

Organic acids beneficially lower the pH in feed, in GIT and inside the pathogenic cell. This also facilitates the animal’s secretion and activation of more gastric-pancreatic digestive enzymes. Organic acids also help reduce the production of ammonia and other growth-depressing microbial metabolites. In particular, propionic acid and the propionate salt are the most successful agents for clearing detrimental moulds and thus for securing liver, bile –and gut functioning. Because of their specific structure they can easily penetrate the outer cell wall barrier of moulds.

Also benzoic acid has a superior positive modulating effect on microfloral composition, and thus gut morphology as well (it is in fact the only acid that really erases harmful yeasts effectively). Similar to the propionate fraction,
it increases the total nutrient utilization (e.g. starch and protein), resulting in a higher daily growth, improved FCR and more delivered 1st quality-grade produced carcasses and meat. Furthermore, in swine diets benzoic acid acts as a powerful appetizer in enhancing feed consumption.

Essential oils or phytogenics make pathogens’ cell membranes more permeable in order for undissociated organic acids to enter the microbial cells easier and provoke cell death. The botanical oils stimulate the excretion of endogenous digestive enzymes so that less undigested substrate will be available to pathogens for fermentation (e.g. into toxic biogenic amines), which is known to cause diarrhoea and consequently wet litter (e.g. piglets around weaning). These natural growth promoters (NGPs) have substantial antioxidative, -and organoleptic features which help increase feed acceptance hence daily feed consumption.

The multi-approach of MouldClean™ prevents proliferation of pathogenic Enterobacteria, and more interestingly of fungi and their growth -and health hindering mycotoxins (e.g. DON, ZEA, AFLA). The broad-spectrum inhibition of detrimental moulds by MouldClean™ (e.g. Aspergillus, Fusarium, Zygomycetes and Penicillium spp.) ensures a long-lasting conservation of the feed, namely its nutrients and palatability. MouldClean™ has specific microbial targets and, because of its pH-lowering effect, does not affect the beneficial microbial populations such as Lactobacili, Bifidobacteria or even commercial probiotic preparations (e.g. E. faecium).


  • Dosage recommendations for MouldClean™:
    1,5 - 2 kg/mT: for standard diets (< 14% moisture); for storage of all cereals and oil-derived vegetal meals (e.g. SBM)
    2,5 - 3 kg/mT: for complete diets/stored cereals with indicated problems of fungal contamination;
    MouldClean™ is not to be applied via the drinking water since it has no high solubility.
  • Storage conditions: 
    Please keep in tightly closed original bag and store in a cool, dark and dry place. MouldClean™ is a stable product under above conditions during a period of 18 months from manufacture date. After this period quality should be checked before use. Small possible variations in color is not correlated with the intrinsic activity and thus performance.
